Brief Summary of the project:
Project Title:
MarES: “Changing Uses and Values of Marine Ecosystem Services in the Norwegian Arctic: Comparative Studies between Norway and Portugal”
Brief Summary of the Project:
This project recognizes that global changes and human activities may affect the use of marine ecosystem services (ES) in the northernmost part of Norway as well as in Portugal. The final aim of the project is thus to demonstrate how cost-benefit analysis and bio-economic models can be amended to take into consideration non-market effects, both monetary and non-monetary, of changing uses of marine ES. Based on the results obtained from those comparative studies, it aims at contributing to improve policy design regarding marine ES both at the Norwegian, Portugal and EU levels, where expectations regarding Blue Growth and the marine bio-economy are high. To fulfil such expectations knowledge about the different trade-offs between different uses of marine ecosystem services spatially and across stakeholders is crucial in order to increase efficiency in the management of the marine ES over time.
Partners: The Norwegian College of Fisheries Science (NCFS) at UiT-The Arctic University of Tromso which leads and administers the project in Norway, University of Stavanger (UIS), Norwegian University of Life Sciences, and Vista Analyse. In addition to the core research team the project consortium also includes distinguished international research economists who have experience from research and practical application of valuation results in management and planning.

Work Plan:
1) Lead and manage project tasks, supporting the PI and the team members, thus interacting with the other team members, sponsors and partners in all phases of the project;
